Logic Pro stock plugins are the only guaranteed plugins, out of the box, to work with LP, and all vendors have to test their plugins/instruments against these DAWs one at a time, whenever there is a major or minor release. If you have projects that don't want any kind of interruptions you either buy a system similar to what I did and revisit the issue over the next 12-18 months or you stick with your current system and invest your money elsewhere and wait for the M2/M3 series of options to arrive. You have to look at your DAW, your choice of Audio Interface and then your 3rd party OEM vendors for their instruments and plugins. They have had lots of issues with Pro Tools on Big Sur for Intel. Pro Tools has matrix that includes status of Apple Silicon M1. I probably won't jump to Big Sur until after the final release of it.Īnother vendor that everyone knows is Avid's Pro Tools. Now that we are dual binary expect lots of issues. A good rule of thumb is 18 months when Logic has a major release to let it flush out all its issues. I use Logic 10.6.2 and prefer zero issues with it at all times, when it comes to third party plugins. I own all of iZotop's products, half of UJAM, SoundToys, many of Wavesfactory plugins and more. Spitfire Audio, Orchestral Tools are just two vendors still in transition.
Secondly, lots of plugin vendors have yet to move to the M1 level of certification necessary for their plugins/instruments to work. Firstly, the Audio Interface by Apogee won't even support Big Sur, never mind Apple Silicon they estimate until late Aug 2021. I myself owning the Apogee Digital Ensemble bought and fully loaded out a 2018 Mac Mini with 64GB RAM to wait for the post M2 transition to be complete. Native Instruments provides a list of currently supported plugins/synths, kits, etc., that work so far with Big Sur/M1.
